Ciarán began his musical education aged six at St Eugene's Cathedral in Derry. As a boy soprano he performed on national radio and television, including solo performances on Songs of Praise (BBC) and the Late Late Toy Show (RTÉ). He also won numerous prizes in festivals across Ireland as a singer, pianist and clarinettist. He completed a BA in Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music under the tutelage of Dr Veronica Dunne, and in 2020 completed an MA in Choral Conducting under Blanaid Murphy. He is currently Assistant Director of Music at St Mary's Pro Cathedral, Dublin as well as Artistic Director of Ardú and the Irish International A Cappella Festival. He is saught after as a professional ensemble singer and a member of Resurgam, conducted by Mark Duley.
Ciarán has performed across the world with several companies, including The Five Irish Tenors, Songs of Ireland and Celtic Woman. between 2016 and 2018 he was a member of Apollo5 in London with whom he delivered vocal workshops across Europe as part of the VOCES8 Foundation. In Ireland Ciarán has worked with several major opera companies, most notably performing the role of Remendado in Carmen, (Opera Theatre Company, 2014), Enymione in Jepthe (Galway International Arts Festival, 2015) and High Priest in Idomeneo (Irish Baroque Orchestra, 2016). in 2019 Ciarán was employed by Irish National Opera as a member of their founding chorus for their inaugural production of Le Nozze Di Figaro.
Chorally, Ciarán has sung with Resurgam, Chamber Choir Ireland, Anúna and Codetta. He was employed as a Lay Vicar Choral at St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin between 2010 and 2015 and regularly sings with both St Patrick's and Christchurch Cathedrals. He is currently Assistant Director of Music at St Mary's Pro Cathedral, working closely with the world famous Palestrina Choir and the Pro-Cathedral Girls' Choir. He is also completing the Archbishop's Certificate on organ with Church Music Dublin.
As Artistic Director of Ardú and Euphonics, Ciarán has won prizes at Cork International Choral Festival and City of Derry International Choir Festival, and has regularly programmed high calibre performances for festivals such as MusicTown Dublin, Music for Wexford, Crescent Arts Festival and K-Fest in Kerry. In December 2018 Ciarán won the RTÉ Choirs for Christmas competition with Ardú and Euphonics, and commenced a European tour with Ardú in the Summer of 2019. He is also founder and Artistic Director of the Irish International A Cappella Festival, which has welcomed vocal ensembles to Dublin from across the world since 2016. He is also currently director of Ireland Unlimited, Ireland's national female barbershop chorus, and Lambay Singers, an upper voices chamber choir based in North Dublin.
Ciarán has vast experience as a choral practitioner. His training with the VOCES8 Foundation in London led to workshops in the UK, Europe and Asia where he worked in schools and universities as well as choral societies and professional singers. He works regularly with Music Generation in Ireland and delivers educational music workshops with Ardú.
Ciarán's arrangements have been performed and recorded by several groups, most notably Ardú and Euphonics, and are available to purchase for any choir or vocal group.
